Sociology Student Committee
The Sociology Student Committee serves as the primary student organization for Sociology majors and students interested in Sociology or social justice. Students come together to discuss classes, research opportunities, internship and volunteer possibilities, as well as career paths and graduate school. The group may bring in speakers, sponsor lecture series and organize social justice events while networking with faculty, graduate students, and fellow undergraduates.
The department also hosts two of the university’s most popular student organizations.
The Oxfam America Club
Oxfam America is a global organization working to right the wrongs of poverty, hunger, and injustice. We save lives, develop long-term solutions to poverty, and campaign for social change. As one of 17 members of the international Oxfam confederation, we work with people in more than 90 countries to create lasting solutions.
The Student Peace Alliance
Student Peace Alliance seeks to advocate for evidence-based legislation and policy that will enhance our campus and build sustainable peace, locally, domestically, and internationally; to build peace on our campus and in our community; and to educate in support of peace. The areas we work in include mass incarceration, immigration, equal education access, and international peace-building. We host educational events and teach-ins and strive to serve students as an outlet for social justice interests.
