Assistant Professor
Andrew Taeho Kim’s research centers on how economic returns from the labor market are stratified based on race, gender, and family. He seeks to contribute to understanding demographic dynamics where labor market returns materialize. He designs his research to answer theoretically meaningful puzzles with methodological rigor. In the long run, he hopes his work will serve as empirically grounded milestones that generate further compelling research questions involving the demographic dynamics of labor market inequality. His areas of interest include labor markets, stratification and inequality, race and ethnicity, Asian American studies, gender, marriage and family, returns to education, and quantitative methodology.
As an educator, he aims to help students be critical consumers of knowledge, develop critical thinking skills, and equip them with the methodological tools necessary to evaluate and produce sociological knowledge. Because we can only become critical consumers of information by entertaining diverse perspectives, he aims to create an environment where students are comfortable expressing their opinions and engaging in constructive discussions about different perspectives.
