Sociology Major and Minor Declaration

The declaration of your major is the most important step in your undergraduate training.  In the major, students become familiar with the intellectual boundaries of a particular discipline, study particular aspects of that discipline in depth, and develop competence in the fundamental skills and methodologies related to it.  In deciding upon a sociology major, be sure to study the department's various concentrations and requirements as listed on our website.  It is also often a good idea to take a course in your area of interest in order to assess if the major is a good fit.

A minor gives you additional expertise and skills.  It can be a great way to broaden your education at UT.

You may declare your major or minor in sociology online or in person at the department main office (901 McClung Tower).  Declarations are usually made within 7 business days. Please check your student profile for the update. Note that changing your primary major will typically result in a change of academic advisor.

;If you have any questions about the Sociology major or minor, or about your declaration submission, please contact Emilie Aslinger Wise, Advisor, at easlinge@utk.edu.
