The declaration of your major is the most important step in your undergraduate training. In your major, students become familiar with the intellectual boundaries of a particular discipline, study particular aspects of that discipline in depth, and develop competence in the fundamental skills and methodologies related to it. In deciding upon a sociology major, be sure and study the department's various concentrations and requirements as listed on our website. It is also often a good idea to take a course in your area of interest in order to assess if the major is a good fit.
You may declare your major in sociology online or in person at the department main office (901 McClung Tower). Upon submitting your request, our department administrator will then email you information about your assigned faculty advisor. You are encouraged to schedule an appointment with your advisor to lay out a course of study.
If you have any questions about declaring a major, please contact Robert Duran, Director of Undergraduate Studies at email@example.com.
