Research
Gilbertson received a PhD in Sociology from the University of Tennessee in 2020. Her specialty areas include a critique of carbon pricing systems, coal mining and extractive industries in transition, environmental violence and environmental defenders, and material ecofeminist theoretical and applied research. Her most recent work examines the incommensurability of compensation under the framework of corporate social responsibility programs used by coal corporations to mask the direct, cultural and environmental violence of extraction in the northeast of Colombia.
