Rossana “Rose” Diaz
Rose is a 4th year Ph.D. student. Her areas of specialization are critical race and ethnic studies and criminology. A native of Temuco, Chile, Rose earned a BA in Theatre and Performing Arts in 2016 from Berea College and an MA in Criminology and Criminal Justice in 2019 from Eastern Kentucky University before joining the Sociology Ph.D. program as a J. Wallace and Katie Dean Fellow in 2019. She has taught an array of courses for our Department including Criminology, Social Movements, Introduction to Sociology, Social Justice and Social Problems, and American Society. Rose has also taught a number of courses at EKU including Female Offenders, Ethical Decisions and Police, Introduction to Criminology, Living and Working in Prison, Program/Policy Evaluation and Analysis, and Policing and Civil Society. She’s presented papers at the American Society of Criminology, the Southern Sociological Society, and at the Kentucky Refugee and Immigrant Inclusion Conference. She’s also published a report on “Improving Female Inmate Safety” and has a forthcoming review of Naomi Paik’s book, Bans, Walls, Raids, Sanctuary forthcoming in Social Justice Journal.
Rose currently resides in Knoxville, Tennessee with her husband, her dog Maxie, and her cats Luna and Minerva.
