Kimberly Haliburda
Kimmie is a second-year master’s student with a concentration in political economy and globalization. In 2015, she attended UTK to pursue BAs in both philosophy and sociology, the latter with a concentration in environmental issues. Kimmie is a recipient of the Lori Mayer Fellowship. She is very grateful to be a first-generation college student. Her interests include environmental issues, world-systems analysis, gendered violence, social movements, Indigenous rights, abolition, and animals and society.
In her passion to help animals, Kimmie fosters special needs dogs and retired racing greyhounds. She has been a representative of the Greyhound Retirement Foundation of Tennessee for the last five years. She is currently researching the ways in which dogs have the capacity to shape rural neighborhoods and communities.
Kimmie traveled to Sedona, Arizona once. She sat on a rock under the hot sun for approximately 15 minutes and achieved enlightenment. Convenient, really.
