Katarina McGuire

Katarina M. McGuire is a PhD student in the Department of Sociology studying criminology and pursuing a certificate in cinema studies. Her primary interests are visual, cultural, and narrative criminology as well as the future and dystopia. She also enjoys researching “weird criminology,” with interests in the paranormal/occult and posthumous justice issues. She earned an MS in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Eastern Kentucky University with a thesis exploring criminalization in futuristic dystopian cinema. She previously studied business earning an MSc in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship from the Alliance Manchester Business School at the University of Manchester in the U.K. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Management and Marketing from Carthage College. She has taught Criminology, Social Inequalities, and Introduction to Sociology.  

She loves dinosaurs, cats, and traveling to places that fulfill the wild spaces in her heart.
