Christine Vossler

Teaching Assistant Professor

Christine Vossler has been a dedicated member of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville for over 19 years. In 2022, she earned her PhD in sociology from UT while working full-time, and further expanded her expertise with a graduate certificate in women, gender, and sexuality studies through the Department of Psychology. Vossler joins the Department of Sociology as a teaching assistant professor.

Her research interests focus on the role of language in shaping social structures and actions, including criminal behavior, and critically examines the potential and challenges of restorative justice in addressing crime and conflict. Her most recent publication, “A Spider on Your Shoulder: Workplace Sexual Harassment and Narrative Injustice,” in Feminist Criminology, delves into how individuals involved in workplace sexual harassment—both perpetrators and victims—construct their narratives. This study also highlights the impact of bystanders, often through their silence or inaction, in reinforcing or challenging these narratives.

Vossler’s teaching portfolio includes multiple sections of courses such as Criminal Justice and Gender and Crime, Introduction to Sociology, Police and Society and Social Problems and Social Justice. With a focus on engaging and relevant sociological themes, Vossler is committed to fostering critical thinking and sociological inquiry among her students.
