Assistant Professor

Research

Aryana Soliz, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Sociology and affiliated member of the Institute for Future Mobility at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her work lies at the intersection of environmental sociology, urban planning, and the movement for just transitions to sustainability. Aryana’s research centers on the analysis of transportation and climate action policies, drawing from theories of mobility and disability justice. Her research projects explore the social impacts of active and public transportation initiatives, mobilities of care, and street experiments in communities across Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Previously, Aryana worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the School of Urban Planning and affiliated researcher with the Disability Inclusive Climate Action Research Programme at McGill University. She has contributed to public impact research through partnerships with various civil society organizations, public agencies, and community groups. Her research and teaching are interdisciplinary, combining methodologies from diverse social science, humanities, and design disciplines.
